Kurulu's Place


Arugambay is a very small town with plenty of nice places to stay.

Some places are star class hotels and some are suitable for budget travelers. As a fan of Arugambay I used to travel to Arugambay few times per year. 

As a frequent visitor to Arugambay I got to know a nice family who live very close to the Arugambay (Ulla) beach. That is Kurulu's family. Every time I visited to Arugambay, they gave me a nice place to stay close to their house. That was a place with two small bed rooms/ and a clean bathroom. For me,  it was a nice calm and quiet room.

Kurulu's Place is at the heart of Arugambay. It is just 5 minutes away from the famous surfing beach. If you are coming from Colombo, tell the conductor/or driver to get down at the Ulla junction. They will drop you down very close to a small Buddha statue. Now, cross the road and ask from some one where is Kurulu's house. It is few meters away from where you get down.

very interesting on camping/ siteseeing/ sea bathing etc. So this is an ideal place for me. Because Kurulu can organize wonderful camping trip to very attractive places those are very close to his house. Last year he organized a wonderful night camping at a top of rock which was very close to his house. It was a wonderful place. That was a rock very close to the ocean and in the other side it was a mouth of a river. We saw a herd of elephant was playing in the river.  


And also he may provide surfing equipment for you. Arugambay is a nice surfing beach and give a try to learn the surfing. Kurulu was teaching me surfing few years back.  As a traveler I highly appreciate the hospitality they provided us for the past few years.

And also the food at the Kurulu's place was very nice. His family may provide delicious food on your request.

As a budget traveler I am very satisfied with their reasonable prices for the food and accommodation. For breakfast, dinner and lunch it was below 15 US$ per day. And for the accommodation it was around 15US$ per day. So as a budget traveler I could manage my day at Kurulu's place within a budget of  30 US$.
